Trump explodes at NBC reporter asking about jet during genocide meeting: ‘You’re a disgrace’
Tensions flared during a high-stakes White House meeting.
A reporter’s question about a foreign gift sparked a dramatic confrontation.

Meeting Focused on Critical Human Rights Issue
President Donald Trump was hosting South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House.
The meeting included a focus on the plight of white farmers in South Africa.
The Trump administration has recently begun accepting white Afrikaners from South Africa, citing “unjust racial discrimination” they face.
During the news conference portion, President Trump directed staff to dim the lights and show video footage highlighting the treatment of these farmers.
Reporter Raises Question About Qatari Jet
Immediately following this presentation on the situation in South Africa, an NBC reporter posed a question.
The reporter asked President Trump about the Department of Defense accepting a jumbo jet from the government of Qatar for use as Air Force One.

“The Pentagon announced that it would be accepting a Qatari jet to be used as Air Force One,” the reporter stated.
Trump Reacts Strongly
President Trump’s response was immediate and sharp.
“What are you talking about? You know, you ought to get out of here,” he replied.
He questioned the relevance of the query given the serious topic just discussed.
“What does this have to do with the Qatari jet?” Trump asked the reporter.

He then explicitly criticized the reporter and NBC News.
They’re giving the United States Air Force a jet. OK? And it’s a great thing. We’re talking about a lot of other things. It’s NBC trying to get off the subject of what you just saw.
President Trump continued, directing pointed remarks at the individual reporter.
You are a real … you know, you’re a terrible reporter. No. 1, you don’t have what it takes to be a reporter. You’re not smart enough. But for you to go into a subject about a jet that was given to the United States Air Force, which is a very nice thing.
He also brought up Qatar’s significant investments in the U.S.
They also gave $5.1 trillion worth of investment in addition to the jet. Go back, you ought to go back to your studio at NBC because Brian Roberts and the people that run that place, they ought to be investigated. They are so terrible the way you run that network. And you are a disgrace. No more questions from you.
“His name is Peter something. He’s a terrible reporter,” Trump concluded before moving on to other questions.

Context of the Qatari Gift
Fox News confirmed that the Department of Defense formally accepted the 747 jetliner from Qatar.
President Trump and his administration have maintained that the jet is being given to the Department of Defense, not as a personal gift.
They have stated it will serve as a temporary Air Force One, necessary because Boeing has reportedly faced significant delays in delivering the new fleet of aircraft.
We’re very disappointed that it’s taking Boeing so long to build a new Air Force One,” Trump said previously. “You know, we have an Air Force One that’s 40 years old.
He mentioned taking over the project from the Obama administration, getting the price down, but facing issues after the election led to delays.

Addressing Criticisms
While some, including Democrats and Republicans, have voiced concerns about the gift, citing potential espionage or constitutional questions like the emoluments clause, the administration’s stance is that it is a government-to-government gift.
Experts like Hans von Spakovsky from the Heritage Foundation have argued that the emoluments clause may not even apply to the president as the Constitution often specifically names the president when a provision does, such as in the impeachment clause.
Von Spakovsky also noted that if the gift is intended for the U.S. government (the Department of Defense), there is no legal issue.

The exchange highlights the tension between a president aiming to focus on specific agenda items and a reporter pursuing a different line of questioning regarding a foreign gift accepted by the U.S. military.
President Trump clearly viewed the reporter’s question as an inappropriate attempt to steer the conversation away from the human rights issues he had just presented.
