‘Sopranos’ actor burying cash with ‘no map’ after chilling warning sign
A star known for playing tough guys on screen has admitted to taking extreme measures at home.
He says a recent event overseas served as a stark, chilling warning.
Meet the Actor Sparking Concern
Joe Pantoliano, the Emmy-winning actor famed for his intense portrayal of Ralph “Ralphie” Cifaretto on HBO’s legendary series ‘The Sopranos’, has opened up about feeling deeply unsettled.
The 73-year-old actor, also known for roles in hits like ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Memento’, isn’t just airing concerns – he’s taking action.

Pantoliano recently shared his feelings about the current state of affairs in the United States.
Speaking to Page Six at the “Tucci in Italy” premiere in New York, he didn’t hold back.
“I’m so uncomfortable with the nature of what’s happening in our country, and I just want to run for the hills,” Pantoliano stated.
He added that the global situation makes it difficult to focus on everyday things.
“It’s hard for me to think about people’s bulls–t like making a TV show. The world is on fire, it’s hard for me to concentrate.”
Eyeing an Escape Route?
This unease has prompted Pantoliano and his wife of 30 years, Nancy Sheppard, to seriously consider relocating, at least part-time.

The couple recently visited Portugal and were charmed by the country.
“We just got back. We really love it there,” he shared.
He even confirmed they’ve taken concrete steps towards making a move possible.

“We actually looked into getting visas so that we could live there part of the time, or most of the time. its a great place to retire,” he told his Instagram followers.
He praised the lifestyle, particularly the walkability: “It’s just, it suits me. I love to walk … I take amazing walks there.”
The ‘Chilling Warning Sign’ Abroad
However, his trip wasn’t just about scenic walks and retirement planning. A major incident occurred during their visit that clearly rattled the actor.
While they were exploring Portugal, a massive power outage struck both Spain and Portugal, causing widespread disruption.

Traffic lights went dark, subway systems required evacuation, and Spain’s Interior Ministry even declared a state of emergency.
Initial reports pointed towards a “strong oscillation” in the European grid, though authorities were still investigating the exact cause, including the possibility of a cyberattack.
This event deeply affected Pantoliano’s perspective on stability back home.
The ‘Dress Rehearsal’ and the Buried Cash
Pantoliano saw the chaos caused by the Iberian blackout as more than just a foreign incident. He viewed it as a potential preview of vulnerabilities in the US.

“They just got hit with a cyberattack, and I think that’s just a rehearsal for what will happen here,” he warned.
This chilling thought spurred him into taking precautions, revealing a rather drastic measure.
“I dunno, maybe it’s a dress rehearsal for what’s going to happen here,” he reiterated on Instagram.
This concern prompted him to secure some physical assets, just in case.
Pantoliano admitted that the power grid vulnerability was enough for him to…
“keep a lot of cash at home, not a lot but enough to get me going for a couple [of] weeks.”
But he didn’t just stash it in a drawer. He took it a step further.
He insisted the emergency fund isn’t easy to find, cryptically adding that it’s…
“buried and there’s no map.”

Uncertain Future
Pantoliano isn’t alone in the celebrity world expressing a desire to leave the US, though his stated reasons seem focused on potential infrastructure collapse rather than purely political dissatisfaction expressed by others like Rosie O’Donnell or Ellen DeGeneres.
His primary concern seems rooted in a tangible fear about societal stability.
“You gotta think about that. You’ve got to think about our future, why is all of this happening? I’m very confused … and I wish I could understand why this is happening,” he mused.
His decision to bury cash, map-free, underscores a profound unease about what might lie ahead.
