For over a week, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland, Oregon, has been the scene of persistent protests.
This sanctuary city location has seen crowds gather repeatedly, expressing their opposition to ICE operations.
Wednesday night brought the latest surge in activity, with hundreds descending on the Macadam Avenue building.
Many arrived masked, carrying signs with messages like “Nobody is illegal on stolen land” and “Protect immigrants and refugees.” Some sported keffiyehs, often seen in left-wing protest circles.
Blocking Access, Escalating Confrontation
The crowd’s objective quickly became clear: to block access to the facility.
Video footage showed protesters attempting to obstruct vehicles trying to enter or exit the compound.
As darkness fell, the situation grew increasingly tense.
Protesters reportedly rolled a dumpster in front of the entrance, a move that prompted an immediate response from law enforcement positioned on a rooftop.

Eduardo Diaz, 22, was cited for allegedly directing a laser pointer at federal officers. He was later booked on a U.S. Marshal’s hold.
Mariana Rivera-Loza, 19, was arrested for criminal trespass near the ICE facility.
According to PPB, Rivera-Loza ignored multiple warnings to leave and was carrying a shield.
Protesters were heard chanting slogans like “Whose streets, our streets” and shouting profanities directed at the law enforcement officers present.
Reports from other states have also highlighted the strain anti-ICE actions can place on resources.
A California sheriff recently noted nearly a dozen deputies were injured in similar anti-ICE events in that state.
The Overwhelming Response That Ended the Standoff
With protesters refusing to disperse and blocking the facility entrance, federal agents initiated a decisive response.
To break up the crowd and clear the area, agents deployed a range of non-lethal munitions.
This included the use of rubber bullets, tear gas, and flash bangs.
A barrage of non-lethal blast balls was also fired from a rooftop position towards the group.
The air quickly filled with tear gas as officers in riot gear advanced.
