LA County DA Nathan Hochman declares ‘The fun is over’ for criminals
A major shift is underway in Los Angeles County.
The county’s new top prosecutor is sending a clear message.
A Sweeping Change in Leadership
The recent election saw a significant change in the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
Nathan Hochman, running as an independent after previously being a Republican, secured a decisive victory.
He defeated incumbent George Gascón, who was often criticized for policies many perceived as lenient on crime.
The margin was substantial, highlighting voter desire for a different approach to public safety.

Campaign Promises Becoming Reality
Hochman campaigned on a promise to restore order and increase accountability.
He often described his position as a “hard middle,” distancing himself from what he called the “public safety failure” of previous policies.
His platform resonated with voters across the political spectrum.
According to Hochman, people from various backgrounds, including “ultra-left liberals, independents and conservative Republicans,” found common ground on the need for a District Attorney who prioritizes safety and holds criminals accountable.

Addressing Public Safety Concerns
Concerns over rising crime and the perceived lack of consequences for offenders were key issues in the election.
Gascón had faced two recall attempts during his tenure, indicating widespread dissatisfaction.
His co-authorship of Proposition 47, a measure that reclassified many non-violent felonies as misdemeanors, was a frequent point of contention.
Hochman argued that these policies contributed to increased criminal activity and a sense of impunity among offenders.

A New Era of Accountability
As he steps into the role, Hochman is wasting no time in signaling his intentions.
He is a former federal prosecutor with deep roots in Los Angeles.
His background includes serving as president of the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission.

He is now focused on implementing the stricter policies he advocated for on the campaign trail.
This includes doubling down on pursuing accountability for criminal actions.
His stance suggests a direct contrast with the approach of his predecessor.

The Message is Clear
In a video shared online, Hochman stood near the county line, delivering his stark warning.
He pointed out the location’s significance, noting it was a place criminals might have previously seen as a safe haven for getting away with offenses.
But now, he asserted, the situation is fundamentally different.
Standing at the border between LA County and San Bernardino County, he sent a direct message.
He stated that criminals who previously crossed into LA County, believing they would face minimal repercussions for theft, robbery, or other crimes, would find that is no longer the case.
In a powerful statement shared on his X account, District Attorney Nathan Hochman declared:
I am standing at the border between LA County and San Bernardino County where criminals used to enjoy crossing in the LA direction, thinking that little to no consequences would occur if they stole, robbed and engaged in criminal conduct. Times have changed! The fun is over. A new DA was elected. And criminals in LA County will now be prosecuted and held fully accountable for their illegal actions.
He emphasized that criminals will now be “held fully accountable for their illegal actions.”

The new District Attorney is making it clear that a new era of prosecution has begun in Los Angeles County, marked by a firm commitment to accountability and public safety.
