Some excerpts reportedly detail concerns among Biden’s aides.

Axios, reporting on the book, mentioned discussions regarding Biden’s physical state.

Specifically, claims were made about the possibility of the former president needing a wheelchair if he had been reelected.

“Biden’s physical deterioration — most apparent in his halting walk — had become so severe that there were internal discussions about putting the president in a wheelchair, but they couldn’t do so until after the election,” an excerpt quoted in the article reportedly stated.

Another excerpt published separately in The New Yorker claimed Biden appeared not to recognize actor George Clooney at a fundraiser.

Response from Biden’s Team

A spokesperson for Mr. Biden addressed the reports stemming from the book.

They stated they had not reviewed the book.

They also noted that the authors did not fact-check the contents with them.

“We have not reviewed the book, and the authors did not fact check the book with us, despite it being a common practice to do so. So we are not going to respond to every bit of this book they choose to release via select leaks in the reporters’ efforts to make a profit,” the statement said.

The spokesperson challenged critics to identify instances where Biden was unable to perform his presidential duties effectively.

“We continue to await anything that shows where Joe Biden had to make a presidential decision or where national security was threatened or where he was unable to do his job. In fact, the evidence points to the opposite – he was a very effective president,” the statement concluded.

Previous Health Issues

It is also relevant to note Mr. Biden’s prior health history.

In February 2023, while he was still in office, a lesion was removed from his chest.

This lesion was found to be cancerous.

“As expected, the biopsy confirmed that the small lesion was basal cell carcinoma,” then-White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor said at the time.

Dr. O’Connor confirmed that all cancerous tissue was successfully removed.

No further treatment was required for that particular issue.

Before becoming president, Mr. Biden had also undergone procedures to remove several non-melanoma skin cancers.

Both Mr. Biden and former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden have publicly addressed claims about his health and cognitive state.

Speaking on ABC’s “The View” last week, they generally dismissed the narratives presented in recent books by reporters.

“One of the things I think is that the people who wrote those books were not in the White House with us. And they didn’t see how hard Joe worked every single day,” she said.
