California Murder Suspect With Violent History Was Freed on Controversial Mental Health Diversion
A man accused of a shocking murder was recently released from custody.
His freedom was granted just months before the fatal incident.

The Allegations Surface
Authorities in Sacramento County, California, have charged Jordan Murray, 25, with murder.
The charge stems from the stabbing death of a 40-year-old man that occurred on May 18.
The incident took place in the Fair Oaks area, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
A Troubling Past
This wasn’t Murray’s first encounter with the law.
In May and June of 2024, he was involved in two separate robbery incidents.
Law enforcement described these as violent felonies.

During the robberies, Murray allegedly used a caustic chemical spray on employees.
He was apprehended following the second incident while attempting to flee on an electric bike.

A Familiar Scene Turns Deadly
Deputies responded to an assault report on Fair Oaks Boulevard late Sunday.
They discovered the victim with multiple stab wounds in a parking lot.
Despite life-saving efforts, the man died at the scene.

Investigators learned Murray had been involved in a physical altercation with the victim earlier that day.
That initial fight had reportedly broken up.
However, the victim later encountered Murray and another individual involved in the prior dispute.

It was during this second encounter that the fatal stabbing allegedly occurred.
The Controversial Release
After his arrest for the 2024 robberies, Murray was jailed.
However, his time behind bars was cut short.

In November 2024, courts granted him “mental health diversion.”
This program allows defendants with mental health issues to receive treatment outside of jail.
He was subsequently released from custody.
Murray is accused of pulling a knife and attacking the victim, causing a “mortal wound” to the chest.
Just six months after benefiting from the mental health diversion program and being released from jail, authorities allege Murray committed murder.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office issued a strong statement regarding the case.
Only six months after his release from jail, Murray committed this completely preventable murder.
Murray was located and taken into custody without incident on Tuesday morning.
He is now being held without bail and faces charges including murder and felony robbery.
He is scheduled to appear in court soon.
